This is an open thread because we are still rehabbing and it is taking a lot of our time. On the plus side the living room / great room flooring is done.
Living room wood flooring finally done. And the master bedroom flooring is also finished.
Master bedroom flooring done.We had to close up the doorway to the master bath. Originally it had no door and the doorway was 42” wide. Gave a great view of the toilet. That didn’t impress us much. A smaller doorway — with a DOOR — seemed a better idea.
tile ledge on bathtub.I also did some tiling on the front ledge of the bathtub where the faucets go. If you ever have separate tub and shower, it is a real hassle getting the faucets for the tub and they are very expensive. Unless you do ebay. A $425 brushed nickel faucet was $90 on ebay, which is where I also got the tiles. We needed 1/4” thick tiles and they were very hard to find and expensive everywhere else, but got them on ebay.
This picture looks weird as though the tiles are floating toward the bottom of the picture, but my brother put in a 6” ledge on that side of the outside of the tub so I could put a beverage or candles there.
Cutting the glass tiles around the faucets was no fun. I have a diamond blade wet saw but my fingers still have to be very close to the blade as I cut these 1” tiles and being glass they did not want to cut on the diagonal which is what was needed.
I haven’t cleaned up the tiles yet or done the grouting. That will be next week.
Another point for this diary is the concept of trying to keep the cost of rehabbing as cheap as reasonably possible. I am lucky to have a brother who can do construction, but even without that, costs are being kept down by purchasing on ebay, at the Habitat for Humanity Restore shop, and at varagesale.com, which is a nation wide virtual garage sale that includes building supplies. We bought two ceiling light fixtures on varagesale.com for less than $15. At the Habitat for Humanity Restore shop, we bought the top for the double vanity. The big box stores wanted $380 — $450. We bought one we liked for $25 at the Restore shop. It needed some cleaning up but that was it. The color was just what we wanted. We also bought the breakfast area ceiling light fixture there for $25 instead of $75.
Thinking outside the big box stores helps.
We put in 3 trees as well. I’ll have pictures of those in the comments section. NormAl is currently at the house doing lawn work.
So WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON?
