What Are You Working On? is for all things hand-made, home-made, and creative in a variety of mediums.

Welcome to What Are You Working On? where we talk about (and sometimes display) our handiwork, whether yarn and fabric crafts, woodwork, metalwork, art, or anything else “crafty”.

I will state upfront that I am not a Christian, but I celebrate the holidays as a compiling of many holidays: Christmas (although much more likely he was born in spring — bringing the lambs down in December in northern hemisphere?), Hanukah, winter solstice, etc. I am by ancestry Catholic. My mother was definitely Catholic. Every year for the last I don’t know how many years, I have made wreaths for the cemetery for my mother and father (Lutheran, sort of). It is my gift to them each year. I could pay someone to set up a generic wreath at their gravesides, but I’d rather do something personal. All of my family that is buried there, my parents, a sister and two nieces, all have custom made wreaths. Various members of the family make them and usually we all meet and set them up together.

That didn’t happen this year and my hubby and I went out alone to put the wreaths on my parents graves. It is not a depressing thing. It is a gesture of love. I will admit to talking to all of them, but that’s just me.

My father’s wreath is below.

They look definitely different this year, because of the lack of snow. I live in northern Illinois. Odd not to have snow yet.

What about you? Any special decorations that you do for the holiday season?

As always: What Are You Working On Now?
