What Are You Working On? is for all things hand-made, home-made, and creative in a variety of mediums.
This diary is going to be a bit different than planned. I fell Friday evening and sprained my right thumb. Causes problems including not being able to finish the project I was going to write about. Also typing is a bit awkward.
I was planning to finish my first fingerless glove in a Baltimore album quilt pattern. Very hard to knit without the use of a right thumb. So I will show progress in that as well as progress in the colorwork sweater above.
First, a bit about Baltimore album quilts. They were very popular in the mid 1700s on the east coast, including Baltimore and Boston. Most often they were wedding gifts where each friend made one block, the most common colors used were red, green and white with a focus on flowers. Since I love quilting and knitting, how could I pass up a pattern for fingerless gloves based on an old quilting pattern?
I had hoped to have the first one finished and blocked, but didn’t happen. So this is more a project in progress diary. On the gloves, I’m up to the second row of ribbing. Below is the back of the glove with a red and green flower pattern.

And below is the palm.

There are also two flowers on the thumb gusset.
The biggest problem with this pattern is working in such a small area (60 stitches) with so many color changes.
There is more I wanted to write about things I have learned about in my early stages of learning about Fair Isle and colorwork, but my right hand says not today. I will take a diary again in 3 weeks and write more.
So What Are You Working On?
